The French company responsible for building and designing Australia’s future fleet of submarines says it expects protracted negotiations over the project’s main contract to be resolved this year.
In his first public comments in Australia, Naval Group’s lead negotiator Jean-Michel Billig admitted talks with the government had been “tough” over the Strategic Partnering Agreement, which will govern how the project will be managed over the next 50 years.
